The Homework Page

Page history last edited by Kathy Shields 1 year, 5 months ago

Homework is a time to practice what you learned during the day.  What happens when you didn't quite get it during the day?  Should you do your best and possibly practice 'wrong'?  Should you ask your parents for help?

I have several suggestions for you.

  1. Reread the directions out loud. I often ask you to do this for me in class and 9 times out of 10 you say, "Oh, now I get it!".
  2. If you are working on Math always check the 'R' side for instructions. The top half of the 'R' side gives a step by step process for you to following as part of the problem solving.
  3. Ask your parents or older sibling to read the instructions out loud to you. Maybe you are just not pronouncing a word correctly and the meaning has been lost.  If you hear another person reading the instructions correctly often this will clear up the confusion.
  4. Write down your concerns. Show your work and document the steps you took so I can see exactly where you got lost.  It is always best to show your thinking on paper because it gives you something to refer to the next day when it all seems like so long ago.
  5. Don't spend hours just looking at the page hoping the answer will spring up if you stare long enough! If you really don't get it, and you have taken all of the steps above, then get some sleep. We will discuss it in the morning and help you to understand.

Don't worry. We really have the rest of this week to complete it. You can take it home at night this week if you it helps. Our actual writing assignment won't be due until December 17. The key is to feel comfortable enough with your handwriting to be able to write the final copy of your animal report using cursive.
