• Will you be able to retell this story in your own words?
• Will you be able to descibe the main character in detail?
• Will you be able to recall how hearing the words and seeing the images in the story made you feel?

Writing your Response to Literature

First, tell what happens in the story using transition words to show the order of events. You are describing a journey in time.

• Tell what happened in the begining, where, when and why is the story being told?
• List three things that happen which lead to the greatest difficulty in the story.
• Describe the change that occurs and may have been an unexpected way to overcome a problem.
• Explain how it all ends where it does.

(Transition words will help to keep your summary in order: first, next, then, to begin, soo afterward, later, finally, in the end)

Next, describe the most important character in the story.

(Tell about their appearance, strengths, weaknesses and changes they made in order of when they happened in the story)

Finally, explain the different ways you relate to the story, the setting, the character, the problem and show how your life compares to the story. Did the suthor make you feel anything new, uncomfortable, surprising?

•  What message do you get from the book? Is it an important message? Why or why not?
• How do you relate the the events, characters and message?
• Why do you think the author chose to write this story?
• What did the author reveal to you that you hadn't known about before?
